The Marangu Route 6-Day Climb, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is one of the most popular routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is known for its gradual slopes, scenic landscapes and hut accommodation. The 6-day itinerary includes an additional acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, giving climbers more time to adjust to the altitude before the summit attempt.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be welcomed by a MaxKiliDreamTours representative and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in, you will meet your mountain guide for a trekking briefing and equipment check.
After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate for registration and park formalities. The trek begins through the lush rainforest, where you will gradually ascend toward Mandara Hut.
The trail continues through the rainforest and into the moorland zone. You will have views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks as you gradually climb toward Horombo Hut.
Today is dedicated to acclimatization. You will take a short hike toward Zebra Rocks or the Mawenzi Ridge area, gaining altitude during the day before returning to Horombo Hut to rest.
After breakfast, you cross the alpine desert known as the Saddle, located between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The vegetation becomes increasingly sparse as you approach Kibo Hut, the base for the summit attempt.
You wake around midnight and begin the challenging summit ascent. The trail leads through steep scree toward Gilman's Point, then along the crater rim toward Stella Point and finally to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m. After celebrating at the summit, you descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing to Horombo Hut.
After breakfast, descend through the moorland and rainforest toward Marangu Gate. After completing the park formalities and receiving your summit certificate, you will meet your transfer vehicle and return to Moshi.
