The Lemosho Route 8-Day Climb is one of the most scenic and gradual routes to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It approaches the mountain from the western side, crossing lush rainforest, the beautiful Shira Plateau, alpine desert, and the high-altitude summit zone. The 8-day itinerary provides excellent time for acclimatization and allows climbers to enjoy the mountain at a more comfortable pace.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be warmly welcomed by a MaxKiliDreamTours representative and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in and a meal, you will meet your mountain guide for a detailed trekking briefing and equipment check.
After breakfast, drive to the Lemosho Gate where registration and park formalities are completed. The trek begins through the lush rainforest, where you may encounter monkeys and enjoy the peaceful surroundings before reaching Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Today you leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone. The trail gradually climbs toward the Shira Plateau, offering beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and Mount Kilimanjaro.
A relatively gentle day across the spectacular Shira Plateau. You will trek through open moorland with impressive views of Kibo Peak while allowing your body more time to adapt to the increasing altitude.
This is an important acclimatization day. You climb toward Lava Tower at around 4,630 m before descending to Barranco Camp. The famous “climb high, sleep low” principle helps your body adjust to the altitude.
After breakfast, you tackle the impressive Barranco Wall. Although steep in appearance, the route is manageable with the help of your experienced guide. After reaching the top, the trail continues through alpine desert toward Karanga Camp.
Today you continue through the alpine desert toward Barafu Camp, the main base camp for the summit attempt. After arriving at Barafu, you will rest, have an early dinner and receive a final summit briefing before preparing for the midnight ascent.
You begin the summit attempt around midnight. The trail takes you through steep terrain toward Stella Point and then along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m. After celebrating at the summit and taking photographs, you descend toward Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.
After breakfast, descend through the beautiful rainforest to Mweka Gate. After completing the park formalities and receiving your summit certificate, you will meet your transfer vehicle and return to Moshi.
